Residential Organizing in the Laurentians: Designing a Home That Follows Its Own Rhythm

A home in the Laurentians isn't designed the way a city apartment is. The four-season chalet, the second home that becomes a primary residence, the property with a double garage and outdoor storage: these are living spaces that change purpose with the seasons, welcoming the extended family in summer and closing in on themselves in winter. At Symétrie, we think of every home in the region as a system meant to follow that rhythm, rather than a space fixed in place once and for all.

We serve the Laurentians along their full length, across roughly forty municipalities stretching from Saint-Jérôme to Mont-Tremblant, through Sainte-Adèle, Saint-Sauveur and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts. That geography has a real effect on how we work: homes here tend to be larger than in the city, closets and back kitchens are designed for outdoor gear as much as for groceries, and the same space often has to serve very different purposes from one season to the next. A system built for a Montreal condo simply doesn't hold up in this context.

Our work always begins with a careful read of the home's real everyday life: who lives there, who passes through, what accumulates, what's missing. From that reading, we design durable systems — tailored storage solutions, built for the exact structure and dimensions of each room, whether it's a back kitchen, a primary bedroom or a garage. The transformation isn't about looks alone: it's about the system's ability to survive everyday life, month after month, without anyone having to rethink it.

This approach matters most in a second home or chalet occupied only part of the year. A home that stays closed for several weeks needs to be left and returned to without friction: nothing should have shifted, nothing should need to be rediscovered. We think of these homes as places that get organized once and then hold, with systems clear enough that the whole family, including guests passing through, can follow them without relearning the home's logic on every visit.

Symétrie has been guiding homeowners across the Laurentians and Greater Montreal through this thinking for several years now, with the same care for a two-day mandate as for a second home reorganized in its entirety. What never changes, from one home to the next, is the conviction that residential organizing is a way of thinking before it's a method — and that thinking has to be tailored, shaped by the home itself rather than imposed on it.
